Arose early and had a last soak! I was a looking at an 8-mile walk to Abbeycwmhir (which for me means more like 10). I met up with my baggage delivery person, Sharon, and took off at 8:30 AM.
The interior of my shepherd’s hut.
My only complaint about the hut was that there were no condiments or cooking essentials of any kind. I could have asked for some stuff to be laid in, but after making HUGE hints to my host, she didn’t volunteer, even knowing I was hiking in.
Bye, lovely hut. I wish I’d had two days here. Next time!Cool, foggy morn. Way starts uphill, as usual!!Pretty sure this is right. Or is it left?Ran into a boggy stretchBut I’m an experienced bog-hopperAnother climb to a stunning viewBut being trapped in these was epically horrorstoryEverywhere I looked, there they were. They will harm you. Finally found the path out!Ohai!First primroses.Close up on this beauty.Amazing views after the climb up.As long as I’m skirting the gorse, rather than going through it!!Lots of up and down through the wooded hills.A rare wooded area outside of Abbeycwmhir. Not as many bluebells in this area as, say, along Wye Valley Walk – so I rejoiced a little every time I saw some! One of the many, many gates one passes through on Glyndwr’s Way.This day. Glorious.Hello, lovely little stream. On approach to town, the ruined Abbey. Could it be prettier?
A nice creek. My first “official” B&B on the walk. Stunning view from the window of my room. I was the only guest. Super nice host, brought me band aids and good food.
Two big things: my poor feet!! I had developed a cluster of new blisters, which I didn’t expect after already hiking so far. It wasn’t my boots – just my fucked-up toes. The next day was a no-way-around-it 16 miles of walking. My walking speed hasn’t been so great, because of the hills, mostly. I wouldn’t be able to leave before 8:00 AM, either, as I had to have breakfast on the B&B’s schedule.
The forecast for the next morning was VERY COLD to start, then a little warmer during the day thanks to much sunshine. I put out all my warmest clothing to wear. I knew it might be a tough day. I had no idea how hard it would be, in fact.
