June 12 – A Day in Linlithgow

Adventure fail with no regrets: We LOVED Linlithgow, and opted to stay docked for the day and night to explore the village. We would spin and make our way back to Falkirk to arrive at the wheel mid-afternoon the next day.

The back of Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of James V and Mary Queen of Scots. This was taken from the kirkyard at St. Michael’s Church.
Oliver Cromwell’s troops used the nave of St. Michael’s Church as stables and to quarter soldiers during their occupation in 1636. The projectile damage is likely from that time.
The tale goes, they used this stone corner to sharpen their swords.
Not sure why I loved this church so much! It was so cozy and warm, and perhaps knowing Mary Queen of Scots was baptized here made it feel special.

I did an art, coming home early and leaving David to run up and down stairs in the palace!

We had a day! Linlithgow is a lovely village. I decided my knee had had enough of stairs, so I got back to the boat early and enjoyed a rest, made dinner, and we relaxed in anticipation of navigating back to Falkirk the next day. Night number two on board!
