June 09 – Westray Ferry, Kirkwall, Northlink Ferry, Scrabster, Thurso

The way it goes: Drive to ferry dock, ferry to Kirkwall, return rental car, bus to Stromness, ferry to Scrabster, bus to Thurso. But we STILL HAD TIME FOR PUFFINS!

One last stop at Castle o’Burrian. I forgot my camera, which is just as well. But David managed this amazing capture!!

Goodbye, Westray, I love you! Maybe I’ll be back someday.

Then we walked to a lovely little park in town, where I found this magical sculpture.
Downtown Kirkwall. We had a nice stroll about before catching the bus to Stromness.

We arrived in Stromness in time for a quick visit to the library, where I found some books to put on my list!

Finally read this one — highly recommended!!!
The isle of Hoy. I was so sad to not visit it – I had made a ferry reservation in our first week in Orkney, but the weather was just beastly that day. Next time, Hoy and your Old Man!

It was a pretty quick ferry ride to the main land and the little town of Scrabster. We were able to get a bus (easily) into Thurso, and since we were the only people actually on the bus, the driver took us a little close to our hotel – which we realllllly appreciated! The hotel was also very close to the train station whence we would begin our journey to Falkirk!
