Up at 5:30 AM! It gets light so early this time of year, it’s hard to stay in bed, especially on a travel day!

Between check out at 10 AM and train at 1 PM, I had some time to go back to the castle gardens and sketch some of the flora. Once establishing that a canceled train was immediately replaced by one at the same time. Transport for Wales is a little wacky!

Knighton is a very cute little village, and I was happy to have some time to wander about and locate the start of Glyndwr’s Way. Found a shop that opened early so I could purchase food for the walk, and located my breakfast stop as well.

During my meal, I got nicely accosted by a cutie-pie local lad named Jay (heavily tattooed, heavy Welsh accent). He was very interested in hearing about California, why on earth I would be in Wales, and just general chitchat. I knew I might be going pretty much the entire next day (or next few days) without speaking to anyone, so it was nice to have a little human interaction.
